Chase gets delayed, Here’s why and when I expect it to be pulled again

All week I have seen NBC mega hype Law & Order: SVU and their huge “get” of a guest star, Jeremy Irons  and I kept thinking there is no way they don’t pull Chase before Wed. Chase will probably get a low 1 and thereby provide zero lead in support to SVU. Now a mere day before airtime, NBC has decided to bump Chase’s return to next week and go with 2 eps of Minute To Win It which no doubt will do infinitely better. My guess is, in addition to getting the most out of a big guest star, NBC mostly doesn’t want to give any help to ABC as they launch Off The Map at 10. Frankly that’s smart and aggressive programming. (It’s actually rather questionable why ABC isn’t being as aggressive themselves. They scheduled a rerun of Castle next Monday vs the premiere of Harry’s Law, when they easily could have scheduled the rerun yesterday opposite other reruns. They have also scheduled reruns of their Thursday dramas opposite new lineups on FOX and NBC, Jan 20th, but that’s a separate story).

I do think they will air Chase next Wed, as it is opposite the 2 hour premiere of American Idol and whatever they put there will get crushed. Including next week, there are 3 Wednesdays until February sweeps begins. Once sweeps starts, I expect either Minute To Win it or SVU reruns to occupy that Wed at 9p slot until the March debut of The Next Great Restaurant. I see them burning off Chase’s 4 remaining episodes on Saturday night.
